If you’re a young artist, you'll want to enter the Star-Telegram Stock Show Art Show, back for its nineteenth great year. Follow the rules below and prepare your artwork. Then, send it (along with an Official Entry Form) to the Star-Telegram by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2007 for judging. This year’s competition will be judged by art professionals from the North Texas area. You could win cash and official 2008 Southwestern Exposition Livestock Show ribbons! Winning entries will be displayed at the Star-Telegram booth in the Hall of Commerce in the Amon Carter Exhibits Hall during the Southwestern Exposition Livestock Show and Rodeo. The
prizes this year will be as follows: 2008 Stock Show Art Show information can be downloaded as an Adobe PDF® document. Printing tip: from Adobe Acrobat print the document in "landscape" orientation with the "shrink oversized pages to paper size" box checked. 1. THEME--The theme for the 2008 contest is "Stock Show." 2. How many entries are allowed-- An individual may enter only one work, with the following exception: students may enter a work with their school and still submit a separate individual entry. Please indicate clearly if a particular piece is to be considered as an individual or school entry. (See entry form) A single work CANNOT be considered in both categories. 3. Created--The work must have been created since the end of February 2007. Entrants must be less than 19 years of age as of December 7, 2007. 4. Prizes--Individual winners and teachers of winning classrooms will receive cash prizes, and official Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show ribbons. 5. Display--All entries will be judged prior to display. All Individual winners and Best Overall Classroom winners will be displayed in the South Hall of the Richardson-Bass Building during the Stock Show. A limited number of remaining,non-winning, individual entries, chosen at random, will also be displayed as space permits, 6. School Competition--Each teacher entering our Classroom Competition may enter a portfolio of no more than 15 classroom works, which best represent the art program at the school. The grand prize winner in the school competition (Best Overall) will receive $1,000 gift certificate for art supplies for art classroom use. Teachers of the winning individual elementary, intermediate school and high school classrooms will each receive $100 for classroom use. Only the Best Overall classroom will be displayed in the South Hall of the Richardson-Bass Building. 7. Awards Luncheon--Winners and their families will be invited to attend the Awards luncheon held Saturday, January 26, 2008 in the Cactus Room at the Amon G. Carter Exhibits Hall. 8. Framing--Entries must be unframed, two-dimensional renderings. Absolutely no framed or matted entries will be accepted. No sculpture. 9. Size--Entries must be between 8 1/2" X 11" and 18" X 24" inches in size. Larger entries will not be judged or displayed. 10. Mounting--All art must be mounted on illustration board or cardboard cut to the exact dimensions of the piece. 11. Media--Watercolors, oils, pastel, ink, mixed media or any flat media may bemused. Dry, unstable media such as pastel, charcoal, pencil…that might rub off and be damaged or damage other works, must be spray fixed. Make sure paintings are dry. 12. Lamination--Lamination is strongly discouraged. 13. Labels-- In addition to the entry form, All entries must have a white, 2 5/8" X1", adhesive removable address label, with the artist’s name and age typed or handwritten neatly, placed in the front lower left hand corner of the piece. These may be found at most office supply stores. Please do not include student’s address or phone on this label. 14. Entry form--All entries must have the entry form or a photocopy of the entry form taped to the back of the piece. The official entry form must be filled out in its entirety, incomplete forms will not be eligible for the contest. Make sure your form is clear and easy to read, use blue or black ink for the best results. When duplicating the form, use white or yellow paper only. Pieces that do not have an entry form attached will not be judged. 15. Deadlines--Entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2007 (no exceptions) To deliver in person: Bring to the Star-Telegram Customer Service Desk, 400 W. 7th Street, Fort Worth. To mail your entry: Send to Stock Show Art Show, c/o Star-Telegram, P.O. Box 1870, Fort Worth, TX 76101. 16. Judging--All entries will be judged on artistic merit, creativity and interpretation of the theme. Under no conditions may parents or students contact the judges to dispute the status of an entry. All decisions of judges are final. 17. Authorship and Plagiarism--All work must be executed solely by the student.By entering the Star-Telegram Stock Show Art Contest, each student undertakes(a) to present an original work (i) that has been created by her or himself in its entirety (ii) that does not infringe upon the intellectual property rights of any other individual or entity as determined by the judges and (b), if such student’s work incorporates published materials as reference, the student should provide a copy of all such reference material in her or his entry package. 18. Execution of the Artwork-- All entries must be the original work of one student; parents, friends and teachers must not assist in the execution of the artwork. The student and parent/legal guardian must sign the affirmation/permission slip on the official entry form. 19. All judges decisions are final. 20. Notification–Finalists only will be notified by phone by Friday, December 14, 2007. Actual places will not be announced until the Awards Luncheon. No phone calls please. 21. Art Pick Up-- Entries may be picked up between Tuesday, February 5 through Friday, February 8, 2008 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Star-Telegram Marketing Dept, 400 W. 7th Street. Dates are subject to change due to weather. After March 3, 2008, all remaining entries will be discarded. 22. Employees--Children of employees of the Star-Telegram or The McClatchy Company are not eligible to win prizes, but may enter for possible exhibition and may be included in the classroom competition.
